Floor Coaching is a technical coaching engagement that happens where the work happens. A Divergence coach observes the participant performing their assigned tasks, compares that performance against the documented standard, and delivers structured feedback immediately.

How It Works

Step 1: Observation
A Divergence coach positions on the floor and observes the participant performing their tasks under normal operating conditions. The observation follows a structured format aligned with the relevant SOP or KTS (Keys to Success) documentation for that function. The coach notes method deviations, sequence changes, safety practices, and time utilization.

Step 2: Contrast Against Standard
The coach compares the observed performance against the established standard. This is not a subjective evaluation. The standard defines the preferred method, the expected sequence, and the allowable time. Every gap between what was observed and what the standard requires is documented.

Step 3: Structured Feedback
The coach delivers feedback to the participant on the spot. The feedback is specific, factual, and tied directly to the standard. The participant hears exactly what was done, how it compared to the documented method, and what adjustment is needed. The session is documented with a coaching record that tracks performance trends over time.
